Passport Name Issue for ILR

Hi Guys,

This forum is a boon to me and have got so much information from posts/moderators.
I need some help this time as my ILR is due in March-2012 and I need to make my application as clear as possible.

I have two questions where I need help;

1. My Tier 1 Visa is on my old passport which expired In Dec-2011 but I have my new Indian passport issued which I would carry . Would there be any issues around it.
2. In my old passport & even on my visa my name is spelled as "mukhtarahmad" (no space ) but on my new passport my name now written as "mukhtar ahmad" (with space). My new passport has got ID of of old passport as a reference. In that sense they both link to each other. I am getting bit anxious as is this going to be a problem for me? Also what shall I use for filling my application form?

Passport is an identification document which is used for various purposes throughout your life. Hence it should always have your correct name. And this should ideally match with your name mentioned in your certificates (unless you changed your name after obtaining the certificates). So you should always ensure that the name/ father's name/ DoB etc. are correct.

If your actual name does not have a space in between, you should get your name corrected in the passport. This should not be difficult to do in the Indian embassy. And this should not take more than a week to get it done.

But if your actual name does have a space, then your old passport was incorrect and you cannot do much about this now. I believe this should not create problem considering both the passports are linked.

1) Should be no problem.

2) Do all other ID documents like your education certificate etc. have got your name as per your new passport?
Should be no problem, but I would still advice to take some professional help.
