Passport renewal and stamping

Hello there,

My Indian passport is to expire soon and I wish to renew the same. I have ILR stamped on my passport, can someone confirm if the Indian embassy would return my original passport along-with the new passport.
To I have to do something special to request this?

The old passport will be cancelled and returned.
