Past Earnings - Employers NI

Post by tperrin » Mon Apr 24, 2006 10:08 pm

Hi all,

I am applying for HSMP from within the UK, as I have been living/working here on a working holidaymaker visa.

Because I've been working as a contractor through an umbrella company, I have Employer's (as well as Employee's) National Insurance contributions deducted from my income. Both are shown on my payslips as a deduction from the gross amount.

Does anyone know if the "Employer's" NI contributions will count towards my past earnings total for assessment purposes? Unfortunately this makes a difference in my case as to whether I meet the threshold or not. The HSMP guidance notes are fairly vague about what constitutes "income", and the person that I spoke to at WPUK couldn't give me a definite answer either.

It would be great to hear from anyone else who's had experience with this, and any comments/assistance at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

TonyP

No, employer's contributions are not your earnings. Your employer is the umbrella company. Your earnings are what the umbrella company pays to you.

Thanks John, that confirms what I had expected.

Best to hear it from you than in a rejection letter though. Thanks again.
