Permanent Residency in Hungary

Hello all,
I have a permanent residency stamp in my passport, which I obtained before 2000. I lived in Hungary for 8 years, but then left. Does anyone know if this means I still have the residency or how can I find out? There is no expiration date on it.

Also since this was before the EU inclusion, would this still give me benefits of EU (such as studying with reduced fees or working in the EU)?

I'm not sure about Hungary and I can't find anything specific on Google. However, as a guide, the UK says that PR expires after 2 years outside the country. For Canada, if you are outside of Canada for more than 3 years in any given 5 year period you lose PR.

I guess that these would be good estimates. If you were outside Hungary for longer it might have affected your PR.

However, if you are still eligible to hold PR, you would be able to take advantage of whatever it offers to you inside Hungary. I'm not sure how PR will affect you outside Hungary in other EU countries. Thanks. On their website it states that it does not expire and is i nfact renewed automatically every 10 years but my question is does it expire or is un validated if I left for some years?

UK PR is automatically renewed UNLESS YOU LEAVE THE COUNTRY FOR TWO YEARS...Don't know about Hungary. You could ask the Hungarian government.

Thanks, but so far I cannot find an answer about this, nowhere in their pure hungarian documents or english online does it say anything about this. SO if anyone else knows the answer please reply.

Where ever on the globe you are, better is to contact the local Hungarian consulate or the consulate working on its behalf to get the exact answer.
