Permanent Settlement in UK with Spanish Passport?

Dear guys and girls, I have spanish passport and want to settle in uk permenently. As i know i have free entry and can work there but i want something in details. My wife is permament resident of Spain. We both want to settle down in UK.

What is the process? How can i start the process before leaving for uk in spain and after reaching in Uk please? I will be very thankful to you if you could guide me in this direction. Hoping that to get the reply soon. Take care:)

It would be even easier if your wife got Spanish citizenship first, so you can both travel as EU nationals.

However, as an EU national you have the right of initial residence in the UK for three months; after that the EEA national has to be exercising Treaty Rights. For your wife it would be best if she applied for an EEA Family permit if she is a non-EEA national. It is normally free to apply for an EEA Family Permit.

I also recommend you and your wife apply for EHIC cards in Spain before coming to the UK.

What is your wife's citizenship? Does she want to work or study in the 6 months after you arrive in the UK?

You wife needs to apply for an EEA Family Permit from the UK embassy, especially if you are flying. The good thing is that it allows her to work immediately on arrival, if that is what she wants to do.

Once you are in the UK, you need to start working (or one of the other options available to you), and then she can immediately apply for a Residence Card.

Both the EEA FP and the RC should be easy to apply for. Roughly speaking two passports, your marriage certificate, and for the RC proof that you are working.

EHIC stands for European Health Insurance Card. They are issued by the health insurance provider in your (EU) country of residence, and you need them if you travel to another EU country (for holiday or whatever) to be able to have access to healthcare in that country if necessary.
