place of birth on British Passport

Hi all,

Recieved my new british passport today!

Only one concern.

The place of birth field on my new british passport is only listed as town without a contry. I can imagine this would be OK for someone who was born in London, but I was born in a small town in Moldova and the town name is viritually meaningless to anyone who is not from the region.

My non-UK passport lists my place of birth as moldova without a town name at all. My british driving licence also just lists place of birth as moldova.

What does everyone else's british passport say? Also can this be changed by the passport office? If so, how would I go about doing that?

Marka, congratulations on actually receiving your British Passport.

What you describe is totally normal. So don't worry about it. My wife's town of birth on her British Passport is Yala and my step-daughter's says Phitsanulok. Does that matter at all? No! Absolutely not. They are now both as British as I am .... and I was born here (of British parents).

I suppose I am slightly concerned because my two passports won't match (don't intend to use them together). Also few, enough people know where moldova is. Almost nobody would know the little town. I would have prefered town, country format, or just country, but not just town.

OK you might have read it in my previous posts as I have no reason to keep it secret .... but if you have not read my previous postings about where my wife originates from .... so where is Yala? And does it matter at all if someone reading the passport does not know?

Exactly the same for your town of birth. It really does not matter if someone does not recognise the name of your town of birth.

Or put it another way, if you were to use your new British Passport and fly to the USA, do you really think the US immigration official would know if you were born in Moldova, or some obscure Scottish or Welsh town or village?

Honestly, this is a non-issue!
