My Plan For Applying For British Citizenship. Will It Work?

I've been doing a bit of research but I still find myself a bit confused about the whole process.
Tell me if this sounds like a plan that can work...

1. Apply for Working Holidaymaker visa [ I am a Canadian citizen ]. This visa will last me two years.
2. Apply for schooling in the UK after my visa expires. Preferably a course that will last me 3 years.

By this point, I'll have lived in the UK for 5 years time. Is it true that after 5 years residency, I am able to apply for a British Citizenship?

And if so, what if I fail the test? Are any re-tests allowed at any point or is it strictly a one-shot deal?

This is one of the requirements for applying for British Citizenship, another one is that you have ILR (indefinite leave to remain) in the UK. Even with the current rules you would not be elligible to apply for ILR after 5 years - if you continued as a student it would take 10 years. I believe when the new rules come in there is not a path for long term students to gain British citizenship.

If you want British citizenship (not sure why...) you need to consider another plan.

Get married to a british citizen.. and ull get citizenship after 3 years...

Not once Probationary Citizenship is introduced replacing ILR!
