Post Study route to be closed

Damian Green, the immigration minister, will today announce the route is to be closed as part of a major review of student visas that will also prevent up to 100,000 fewer foreigners coming each to study every year.

The news article and the subject of this topic is very sensationalist and does not reflect the truth.

Damian Green simply announced the start of an 8 week consultation process which will be on 31 January 2011. No decisions have been made yet, although the broad goals have already been set.

The UKBA press release is here and the ministerial statement can be found here.

I am not sure these are not 2 separate issues. This is what your first link says, for example:

The drive to ensure students return overseas after their course finishes will mean students will have to leave the UK and apply for a new visa to further their studies, and show evidence of progression to a higher course. It will also see the closure of the post-study route under Tier 1.

Two more "sensationalist" articles:

The fact of the matter is, it is not being closed today.

The headlines state: Student work search visa to be scrapped under plans & Plan to scrap student work visa

It is not closed yet - but the subject says that it's "to be closed today". Two very different things...

Ok, point taken. I corrected the headline.
