So looking at few posts, if going through post office service, we will have to provide the with Biomatric card. Though I think it is not required by IPS but due to lack of knowledge for the staff handling passport service in post office is the main reason.

I wish I had time and guide with me to show the reference :D . Anyways IMHO, I don't see any point holding my ILR BRP card when sending my original passport :)

Problem with the Check and Send service is that the people checking your application doesn't know much and just think as though they are working for HMPO. I know it's mental. Just absolutely MENTAL!!!
I would have shown guide page with documents required without arguing. And if even this would not have worked out, I'd just leave for another post office.
I suggest to all of you having faced ILR Card issue to make formal complaint against the post office Ltd staff concerned. Post office Ltd must not keep sub standard employees,it affects the standard of service we pay for.

Can anyone offer advice on this, its been 6 weeks since I applied now and I had my interview on the 12th April and was advised the password will be with me in 10 days. Its been 10 days and I have called the 0300 numbers and they are unable to help me because I do not have the application number printed on the form. (I forgot to take a note of the number) anyone can offer any information that might help?

No you don't. You are a British citizen now.
I did use the Check and Send service at Uxbridge Post Office and guess what ? Lady at the post office insisted that I have to send my ILR BRP card or she won't accept my application... I know this sounds crazy but I explained her that there is no point of me sending the BRP card as I am sending my ORIGINAL Naturalization certificate. I think it is true that people at the post office simply do not know the check and send procedure occasionally - I was told that I cannot apply for the Jumbo passport on a first adult passport application - Is this the case?

That is what I tried to convey to the person and was adamant that the Jumbo passport option is selected. The person told me that I will have to wait and see what happens.

Update:

Application Timeline
Passport for: Adult
Application Type: New
Method of application: Check & Send - 28/03/2014
Date of application: 27/03/2014
Date application received by IPS: 01/04/2014
SMS: 02/04/2014
Date of receipt of interview letter: 16/04/2014
Date of Passport Appointment: 25/04/2014 at London Victoria
Date of Passport Receipt: 28/04/2014

Questions at the interview were the same as previously dedcribed by others, nothing unusual. Got my passport very quick as you can see from the update.

The wait is over. Good luck to everyone and god bless!!!

For any questions PM me as I cannot see the necessity of being here and want to give way for others waiting

This forum was awesome!

Gongrats Alex, good luck to you too.

To others facing "red tape" issues at local post offices, take guidance with you as a proof. It comes with application pack anyway. If they are in doubt, insist them calling IPS. I like to argue too but sometimes it just does take you anywhere.

Application Type: New
Method of application: Check & Send
Date of application: 11/03/2014
Date application received by IPS: 12/03/2014
Date of return of documents: 15/04/2014
Date of receipt of interview letter: 09/04/2014
Date of Passport Appointment: 15/04/2014 (PORTSMOUTH)
Date of Passport Receipt: 17/04/2014

We both have interview on same day i.e. 15/04/2014

Interview was for 20 minutes each.

My Husband received passport on 17/04/2014 (Passport Printed On: 15/04/2014)

I am calling daily to the IPS Office and Liverpool but same response i.e. Under Examination.

I don't know how much time they will take to print and delivered.

Anybody gone or going with the same situation please advised.

Many Thanks

Hi all,

I wonder if someone can help me, as I'm applying for my first British passport this Saturday 3rd May.

I have two questions:

1- is it quicker to apply by myself or to use the passport check and send?
2- what is the average processing time for obtaining the first passport following naturalisation? As I'm going for a holiday on 9th June.

Many thanks,

Mohamed

Update. All documents received after 2 weeks of panicking, many calls and correspondence (all in vain as they can just tell me my application is being processed, even though I now realised I called on the day that my documents were actually sent out!)
jessnst wrote:Am getting worried as I haven't heard back re my application. Have called several times to enquire about it, and all they can tell me is that the application is with the examiners. A gentleman told me that if I haven't heard back, then all is in order and it should be with me in 6 weeks. I need to travel 1 May, and really need my passport back before then. 6 weeks will be up 23 April and would be great if I get back my supporting documents by then, but worried if I don't. :( Especially as I have not received any communications including need for an interview. Another shout out to anyone who has applied first time from abroad and can share their experience please?
jessnst wrote:Passport for: Adult

Method of application: Courier (Overseas)
Date of application: 6 March 2014
Date application received by IPS: 12 March 2014 (although courier indicated receipt and signed on 10 March 2014)
Date of return of documents: 25 April 2014
Date of receipt of interview letter: None
Date of Passport Appointment: None
Date of Passport Receipt: 29 April 2014 (attempted first delivery on 28 April 2014)

Update: called on 3 April to enquire, as am planning local travel and wanted to plan around my interview dates. I was told that they can only tell that it is with the examiners in Liverpool office, and not sure how long it would take. I need my original passport back before 1 May.

Has anyone else applied for first passport whilst abroad? How long did it take you to get the first interview and subsequently to get the passport if you pass the interview?
