English language requirements for wife's visa from india

Post by sraj » Sun May 18, 2014 6:50 pm

Hi all

I have got ILR, and i am preparing to send my documents for my other half.
What english language test she needs to take : b1 or ESOL.

I have read UKBA guidance notes, but i am not getting a clear steer.
I can go with IELTS, but its gonna expire in 2 years. Then i will be in the same position.

Please let me know.

Thanks.

For Spouse Visa, your other half only needs to achieve Level A1 of the CEFR.

ESOL will be fine. Level B1 is only required for ILR and BC applications.

Thanks for the reply.
But would it be better, if she gains B1 now, as it will cover her for ILR application few years down the line.

Hi,

I'm going to apply for ILR in Oct 2014. Just wanted to confirm that I have ESOL Entry 3 (B1) from India when I applied for Spouse Visa.

Is it acceptable for ILR now as it was from India.

Many Thanks

Yes, it would be better if she does level B1 and it can be used again for ILR. (assuming rules haven't changed much in several years and the certificate is still on the list of acceptable qualifications)

As long as the Home Office still accept the qualification (it's still on their list), It's fine to use again.
