Had another call back at 5 saying my passports in a que to be printed, and then the woman said you probably won't have it Tomorrow, she was so rude, don't know how they get away with it but looks like my holiday has now been ruined, I gave them 8 weeks to process it aswell. Anyone traveling soon would advise you give them 10 weeks as half of them don't know there head from there bottom!

Type of Passport: 1st Adult passport * 2
Date Applied: 10/05/2014 via posstoffice check and send

15/05/2014: received at Durham office (the blackhole) - came to know about it after posting online progress enquiry

.................
Waiting
..................
23/06/2014: Called Durham office, not examined yet, asked to call them on 27/06 when it will be 6 weeks + 1 day from the time they have received it and then may be they can write a note!!

26/06/2014: Called passport enquiry line, a nice guy took all the details, kept me on wait and spoke to Durham office, told me Durham advised nothing can be done but to wait

27/06/2014: Wrote to my MP. Prompt reply from my MP saying I am being a bit unfair to escalate this immediately after 6 weeks as we all know there is a unusual demand (no reward for guessing which political party he is from). He ended the letter saying his office will enquire and see that there is not a problem with our applications.

01/07/2014: Called Durham office, interview leters have been sent today. Got reference numbers on phone and booked passport interview on 07/07/2014.

So today was the day I needed my passport, did it come? Did it heck, looked online last night it said dispatched then got a text today saying it's being printed, there so full of lies it's unbelievable, & then I ring them this morning and the courrier hasn't even picked it up yet. Now I've had to pay £150 to change my flight and wasted 4 days holiday from work.
But it Should be here this week so I guess that's the end of this disgusting service.
Good luck everyone :)

When you call, tell them connect you to AB progress team. My dad in same situation as you. Durham office is disaster. Today, we've managed to get on hold of them. If they didn't sent you interview, you probably might need to wait for the letter, where they write something missing (usually original passport).

Update on my case

Hi All,
I send my application with my wife and daughter on 12/05/2014, Durham OFFICE TOOK MONEY FROM MY ACCOUNT ON 25/5/2014 AND I received message as well.
I have not heard anything after that and worst thing is I didn't make the note of my application reference number. My question is, Is there anyway to trace the application without reference number I mean they should be able to find the progress by surname or postcode (Its a big shame if they cant).
Any contact numbers to ring ?
Any email address to mail ?
or any mailing address to write ?

Thanks in advance

Hi Powerfox

What does 'AB' processing team mean and what do they do exactly which is different to anyone answering the phone?
If it works to ask to speak to them we will need to do it. Applied 3rd June, at Durham, travelling the end of this month and no communication from them!

Thanks

British Passport application processing timelines-online app

Post by shiva29 » Tue Jul 01, 2014 2:38 pm

Hello friends,

I have recently filled the passport application thru online ( after I became naturalized as British from 5 yrs work VISA) and submitted the form to the Peterborough office by post.

I have learnt that, the parents details didn’t ask during fill the application in online as there in the paper based application form ( if you get the form from Post office) , so wonder if anyone faced the same problem and how do you manage to get the passport. Did they send any additional form and ask to fill it and send it back...

Please advise your experience on the online based application and how it went on ?

looking forward for any advice on that please.

Thanks

Hi,

I did not use any template. Here is what I wrote (and note that I do not know if it is a coincidence that my applicaiton was examined very soon after this)

My wife (<Insert Name>) and I applied for our first adult passport through
Passport check and send service on 10/05/2014. Our reference numbers
are <ref number> and <ref number>. We have made several enquiries about the
progress of our application and came to know that they were received in
the Durham office on 15/05/2014. Even after 6 weeks from the office
receiving the documents, we have not yet received the interview letters
whereas the expected standard time to get the printed passport is
maximum 6 weeks.

Every time I call the passport enquiry line they have one standard
reply which I have read number of times in the newspaper and I know has
been heard in the house of commons that I am simply unlucky to apply
during an unprecedented peak time. I would have understood this and
patiently wait if I was told an expected time. I know at least 7
persons who have applied weeks after me and have received their
passports and all of them were first time applicants like me. So, the
whole process appears complete random to me and that is what scares me
as there is no defined expectation, no queue and none can tell me when
my files will be examined, all they advise me is to wait indefinitely.

We have planned travel to India in the 1st week of August and that is
the only time we can travel and after getting our British passport, we
have to apply for Indian visa and time is running out.

In this circumstance, I can only think of your intervention as the last
resort. May I request you to please escalate my case?
