No Surname/family name in Passport

I am applying for Tier 2 General Visa but I don't have surname/family name in my passport. Its a mandatory field in online application and it will not allow me to register without entering surname.
I just called up customer service and they mentioned to add given name(s) in both fields and provide the additional information about blank surname in passport.

Name as in passport:
Given name(s) : abc xyz
Surname : <blank>

Visa form:
Given name(s) : abc xyz
Surname : abc xyz

Is the above information valid? Has anyone been in this situation recently?

I have same problem on my passport. But I never get any problem. I am also on Tier2. I had put XXX in the surname column. But make sure, you should have same thing in your COS. While putting XXX in COS, my sponsor put a note that I have no surname.

BTW, I have to register my account in https://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/. Should i mention "XXX" as my surname here too?

Just put same name in both applications and please correct your passport with name and surname seperate once you are in UK.
Forget about doing it in India as it will take too long.

Just another thing, ask your sponsor to ensure the COS allocation has same name in SMS too to avoid any issues.

If you change your passport name in future you might also need to apply for a new BRP once in UK which costs money.
