There is a £250 limit on postal orders, so take £175 x 3 and write GBRLxxx/ name on back of PO
If applying in person, why not just carry exact cash - saves you £37.5 in Po fees!

Finally, while taking appointment I have mentioned all three of us would be coming to the consulate but it seems that I would be going alone. Is this ok or will they object because my wife and son are not coming?

You can submit for your family - no problems with that - but take all originals with you.

cancelled passport copy is not required as a surrender certificate supersedes it.

You are not missing anything. Just taking lot of extra.

British passport only photo page and observation page required.

Indian passport not required, so if you take 1 or 100 pages, all the same.

Dear All,

I am going to apply for OCI for myself, my wife and my daughter.

Both me and my wife got BC through naturalization and my daughter is BC by birth.

I got my Indian passport surrender certificate.

My query is regarding the Birth certificate for myself and my wife.
Is it compulsory to submit the Indian birth certificate, As it says in the VFS website under "Other necessary documents of Indian origin" section.

Please help and give your advice, any one has recently applied for OCI.

Kind regards
RK

Hi RKUK,

No if you have a surrender certificate then your Indian Birth certificate isn't required. You will need your marriage certificate though, and your child's birth certificate. Make sure you take 1 original + 1 photocopy.

Is self attested means the person who is applying or person signing to whom the orginal document belongs ( My wife`s Indian passport signed by her?)

I am BC and my wife is Indian.I am planning to apply in person for my daughter as I have OCI already.

I am planning to take All orginals with Photo copies
MY passport copy self attested
My wife`s passport copy
My Naturalization self attested copy with Indian passport surrender certificate
Application forms A & B with Photo of my daughter
My OCI photocopy with my daughters birth certificate and passport copy
My marriage certificate self attested by me

Please suggest me If I am missing any information

Hi,

Yes I think your wife needs to self attest her copies etc. I think you've got everything in that list, just take the originals too of everything just incase.

Yes, a family member just applied recently. He already had a Surrender certificate so when he went to the VFS centre with his birth certificate for the OCI, they never took it. They looked at it, but said it wasn't necessary to submit with the other original documents (such as his original marriage certificate and original surrender certificate) .So I'm 99% sure you don't need it. It's worth going to apply anyway without it, the Surrender certificate alone is proof enough that you were an Indian citizen.

Let me know how it goes. Because my family members didn't need their birth certificates so you should be ok. And if they do reject you in the VFS office, you won't have lost any money anyway because you only pay them after they accept your application.

Hello everyone
I am going to apply for OCI in a few days. Need some help. I do not have my birth certificate with me. But I do have a School leaving certificate. However, it is laminated?

To RKUK:
Did you manage to submit your OCI application without birth certificate?
What documents did you submit?
When you submit OCI application along with the mandatory surrender certificate in originak, do you get back the Indian passports with a Cancelled stamp?

Your responses would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Kay

Hi Kay,

No I have not submitted my OCI yet.
I don't think we need our birth certificate , What I understood after reading the vfs website. if we had Indian passport , we only need the Surrender certificate for OCI

I wanted to clarify who need to sign the documents for child application?
(Self attested means)

For Kids application both the parents need to sign and each related documents asked by VFS.

Thank you

Thanks for your reply RK. From the website, I understand that birth certificate is an additional mandatory document.

Could someone who has submitted their oci application, please guide us about the birth certificate.

First sorry if i am posting duplicate query unfortunately couldn't find a complete list of documents required for OCI. I am going to submit my OCI application in few days and plan to submit following documents:

Application form
Printed & Signed Declaration form
2 Photos
copy of British Passport
copy of Naturalization Certificate
Surrender certificate

However I do not have any of "Other Necessary documents" mentioned on VFS website :

Domicile certificate
Original Birth Certificate
School Leaving Certificate
Agriculture land

Are these mandatory? I am struggling to arrange as have already surrender my passport and can't travel to India to bribe officials. I do not understand logic behind these "Other Necessary documents".

Please advice. thank you for your help in advance.

Best Regards

If you have surrendered your Indian passport and have a "surrender certificate" you don't need any other documents (e.g. domicile certificate, school leaving certificate, etc) to prove Indian origin. This has been clarified by the High Commission, VFS, as well as several people on this forum (I can speak from personal experience as well). Don't worry, the surrender certificate is enough.

Other documents like domicile certificate etc are required only when an application does not have a passport surrender certificate.

Hi
The VFS website mentions a letter from the employer with job description as a mandatory document. Is it really needed? Has anyone been asked for it? If so, do you have a format in which it needs to be.

Also is the revoked Indian passport needed?

Any help on the actual documents needed from anyone recently is highly appreciated. Thank you.

At the VFS on Goswell Road (London) I was asked to rebook my appointment as I had not taken the employer letter when applying for OCI. This was last month (Apr 2017).
