ILR to Citizenship (British Passport)

Post by s0787671 » Thu Oct 02, 2014 9:00 am

Dear Members,

I have a query about the british citizenship. I have been granted ILR this year based on 5 years on Tier 2 general.

Questions:

1) Within a year can I just apply for a passport via AN form or naturalization form or is their another easier method to get the passport?

2) Is there any policy where in my wife could get ILR OR Citizenship (After 3 years of PBS visa) after I have citizenship without having to complete 5 years on PBS dependent visa?
- She has currently done 1y 8 months on PBS dependent visa, so another 1y 4 months for citizenship ??

Thank you in Advance
Bharat

1. You are unable to apply for a British passport without first being granted British Citizenship.
2. Your wife can't apply for British Citizenship until she first has ILR which is a 5 year route.

Thanks for the reply,

So

1) I need to use the AN form for british citizenship first and then which is the form for passport application?

** This is just ongoing money making racket from UKBA.. they just keep drawing more and more money of us.

When it comes to spouse of BC:

It states if she has completed 3 years in UK she can apply for citizenship.

by next year, when I apply for citizenship, she will have completed 3 years in UK.

As she has been in UK since 2009:

1) 2009 - 2010 - student
2) 2010 - 2012 - Post study visa
3) 2013 - till date on PBS dependent.

Please correct me if I am wrong here .

Passport is just a travel document and only a british citizen is eligible to apply for a british passport...so unless you apply to become british how can you apply for passport? ukba is not forcing anyone to spend money and become british. it's a personal choice.

Dont think its correct but would be happy if someone proves me wrong.

read this.

you’ve been granted indefinite leave to stay in the UK (or permanent residence if you’re an EEA national) - this means there’s no specific date that you have to leave

1) I agree about citizenship and then Passport logic. But I just wanted to know about the forms for the same AN and ??

2) I have just read that ILR is still prerequisit for citizenship for dependent as well, only catch being dependent doesnt need to wait for 12 months after ILR, if main applicant is British Citizen.

1.Form AN for British Citizenship - different application for a passport. Pick up a passport application form from the Post Office or apply online for one to be sent to your home address. https://www.gov.uk/get-passport-application-form

2. As per my previous post, your wife will need to have ILR ( 5 years on current visa category) before applying for BC. If you have British Citizenship she can apply as soon as she is granted ILR as long as she meets the standard requirements.
