permanent residence / citizenship

Post by mapleleafgirl » Tue Nov 09, 2004 8:45 am

Within the EU, a non EU national married to an EU national will generally get automatic permanent residence, tho sometimes will only initially get a 1 year visa (such as in the UK). For citizenship, the best thing is to live in the EU partner's home country, as spouses are often fast - tracked, though there may be language requirement etc. Each EU country has own rules about citizenship. Make sure that both countries of each spouse recognise multiple citizenship before considering naturalisation other you may lose your original citizenship.

Hello,

Just remember to save all documentation and try to get some utility bills or renting contract with both names or similar documents showing that both lived in the same address, that would help in the future and it is easier to start now with the "residence folder" and not to realise in 24 months that you didn't kept any of the documents. When you move countries is tempting to burn all the old receipts and papers, just keep some that help you prove that you lived togheter for X amount oy months.
