Hi, my parents both had indian but now have british passports, same with wifes.

[quote="rajesh9pl"]Can you please let us know on what basis you both qualify for OCI? I know you said your wife was born in India but you didn't say what was her parents' nationality then?

Marriage certificate is required for two cases: 1) when applying for children based on parents' background. 2) when wife has changed her surname due to marriage.

Below is the eligiblity criteria to qualify fo OCI:
A foreign national is eligible to get OCI card, if he
1.was eligible to become a citizen of India on 26.01.1950, or
2.was a citizen of India on or at any time after 26.01.1950, or
3.belonged to a territory that became part of India after 15.08.1947

You didn't answer on what basis you qualify?

Hi technoguy,

Do you have any further update with your passport ? Birmingham is really a pain as compare with London, I sent my passport at the same time as you and not had my passport yet on hand.

Hi,

Quick question, for the copy of Foreign/British passport do we need to submit just the Photo page and observation page or do we need to copy all pages even if they are all blank?

Thank you.

Applications to Indian High Commission at London can be made only if the place you live falls under their jurisdiction.

As they were not approachable through phone. I send them email and message through the online form on contact us page. I received a generic reply after few days that it takes 10-12 weeks for processing and nothing else specific to my passport held with them for weeks. Apparently I can track my passport is on the way for delivery tomorrow. I will let you know once I receive tomorrow if everything is in place.

From based on below link, recently they have taken out U sticker in passport. How is it yours, did they given U stickers?
i guess for future appliciants, straightaway they will send the OCI booklet with sending our british passport and also i guess in renewal passport time, no need to send the new passport to indian commisssion for new sticker... So far no updates on this article in hcilondon website.. If my assumption is wrong, kindly correct it.

I did not understand post from nm or from rajesh9pl
The new OCI rules say there is no U visa anymore. nm says that the U visa 'was stuck' to his passport. Does this not mean that this is still 'OLD' style and _NOT_ new guidelines ?

I think when you apply in person, jurisdiction rule applies but when applying through post the juridiction does not matter, I have already clarified from HCI London through e-mail.

Hi DKS,

I applied in london and my jurisdiction fall under Birmingham. what I have read and understood is you cannot select Mission as Birmingham(or anyother place) and apply in person at london office. you need to make your decision where you want to apply. In My case I select Mission as LONDON and applied for my application in person No questioned asked. I would suggest to read this line again on HCI web site.

GBRB (Birmingham) and GBRE (Edinburg) application/s will not be accepted in HCI, London.

Hope this helps!!!

Hi garry15

I am quite clear on this subject, It is very obvious that you need to select respective mission at the time of filling up form online , where one need to aply either in person or post.
This has to be decided well in advance, for example if you select London as mission in Part A form then he/she need to apply at london only.

I think the debate here is if you live in Birmigham juridiction then can one fill up form on selecting mission as London and apply in person at London ?

Possibly my word "unfortunetly, I sent my application to Birmingham" is the source of confusion. I should have written 'applied' instead of 'sent' my application. Sorry for the confuson.

Clarification by HCI London for my query

Question

1) Can I send the Postal order for total of £525 for three applicant OR it has to be 3 x £175 separetly ?

2) I live in Manchester, Can I apply OCI through post at HCI, London ?

3) I am including original documents for Naturalization certificate and passport surrender certificate for each of us and additional self attested photo copy of following documents.
------ a) Last cancelled indian passport (first and last page),
------ b) Photo page of british passport,
------ c) Naturalization certificate
------ d) Indian passport surrender certificate
Are these documents sufficient for OCI application along with Form A for each of us, one Form B for all of us in common, two photographs as per guideline and postal orders ?

4) Do I need to also send the originals for the following documents ?
------ a) Last cancelled Indian passport
------ b) Marriage Certificate
------ c) Birth certificate for child

HCI London Reply

1. Yes, if you can get one
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. Marriage and birth certificate should be sent in original as well as photocopy.

That is strange. When I inquired through e-mail they informed me that for applying in person or post I need to apply at HCI London as I come under their jurisdiction and if I do so at Birmingham my application will be returned.
The same thing for re-issue of passport for change of date and place of birth. One day they informed me that I can get it done at HCI London. After booking an appointment when I needed further clarification about required documents they informed that it cannot be done at HCI London. And, they asked me to contact the Indian consulate where my current valid passport was issued (which is Chicago) even though they no longer has jurisdiction over my passport issues.

Applying to CGI birmingham is a real pain and its taking too long to process. I have sent my kid application to birmingham as they wanted additional documents to be submitted while i visited them. Hence, I have sent them and still not received the origingal. its been two weeks now.

I've a flight booked to India for 20th of Feb. I'm expecting that OCI will be delivered to HCI on 13-Feb-2015. I'm planning to post my passports the same day, i.e. 13-Feb-2015 and hoping that it'll be sent back before my flight (fingers crossed).

What do you guys suggest? Assuming that my OCI will be there at HCI on 13th Feb, should i send my passoprts to get OCI or should i apply for visa on 16th Feb to get it in time for my flight for 20th Feb?

Also, has anyone got their OCI processed after 29th Jan? if so, is HCI still putting the "U" sticker on the passport?
