English language requirment for dependant ILR

Post by swamik1 » Wed Feb 11, 2015 8:22 pm

Hi,

My wife has to undergo English language test at B1 level. Could you please let me know what she has to do in that test like only speaking and listening or reading and writing or all the four?

Thanks

Hi,

My wife's degree was not taught in English. She is currently undergoing ESOL courses. She has to appear for the English test.

I just want to know what do they test at B1 level.

Please help.

So submitting just the bachelor's degree (University of Mumbai) for my wife will that not be enough. As that is what I had submitted during my Tier1 General back in India in 2010.
Do we necessarily need an additional doc saying that the degree is specifically taught in english?

P.s Btw Uni of Mumbai is listed in the PBS under educational qualifications and is apparently recognised by UKBA

Thanks for the link.

I found the following two information from the link provided.

Spouse & partner: If you intend to apply under the spouse and partner route you must provide evidence that you have passed the speaking and listening components of a test at level A1 or above. You do not need to demonstrate reading and writing skills. Where a test examines all four components (speaking, listening, reading and writing) you do not need to pass the reading and writing components, you only need to evidence passing the speaking and listening components.

Settlement: If you intend to apply under the settlement route you must provide evidence that you have passed the speaking and listening components of a test at level B1 or above. You do not need to demonstrate reading and writing skills. Where a test examines all four components (speaking, listening, reading and writing) you do not need to pass the reading and writing components, you only need to evidence passing the speaking and listening components.

spouse & Partner - ILR dependant needs to pass the test at A1 level or above
Settlement - ILR main applicant needs to pass the test at B1 levl or above.

Is that my understanding correct ? Could anyone please confirm this

Thanks
