Hi All,

Both Parents (Father and Mother) Passports are required to apply for my child born in the UK.

In My case I got ILR, My wife has applied for the ILR. We do not have my wife passport with us. it is at home office as her application is under consideration.

You should be ok with only your passport but if I were you, I should call nationality checking services in your local council to get further advice.

I've recently received my ILR and wish to apply for my UK born daughter. I've read about the requirements and I understand that only one of the parents needs to have ILR, however I just need to clarify whether both parents need to send passports or just for the one with ILR.
I'll be applying through section 1(3).
Thank you.

I recently applied for my kids certificates by post and I only added a photocopy of my brp with no passports of either parents and I received their certificates within 18days. I Dont think passports are required.

Eligibility criteria: section 1(3)
Method of application: Postal (Royal mail special delivery used)
Date of application :25 Feb 2015
Date of receipt by UKBA : 26 Feb 2016
Date of debit of fees : 02 March 2015 (from online banking, I noticed that home office took the fund on 28 Feb 2015)
Date of receipt of acknowledgement: 05 Mrch 2015 (dated 28 Feb 2015)
Date of approval: 15 March 2015
Date of receipt of documents: 18 March 2015 (enclosed a self addressed royal mail special delivery envelope)
Date of receipt of registration certificate: 18 March 2015

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since, I enclosed a self addressed prepaid royal mail special delivery envelope (whose tracking details I know), I could able to see that home office had posted the documents back on 17th March 2015 (I was tracking it frequently). So, I could be at home to collect the documents today.

Thank you. These were the documents submitted

- Original full UK birth certificate for the child (with the ILR parent named on it)
- Original child passport
- Mother's passport
- Mother's ILR Residence Card
- Marriage certificate

My ILR RC hadn't arrived by post before the NCS Appointment & hence submitted my wife's PP & RC. She was physically present during the appointment.

There is no need to submit the original passport and ILR of the parent for MN1 (Section 1(3)) application.
I just did it for my kid and I just sent a copy of my ILR (no passport copy was mine was sent).

The following are the list of docs sent
1. Child's passport (provide this if the child has ever got a passport, otherwise leave it).
2. BRP of child (provide one if the child have ever applied, otherwise no need)
3. Original full UK birth certificate
4. Parents marriage certificate
5. Completed MN1 form + photo
6. Copy of Parent's ILR

MN1 (registration) application processing timelines (only)

Post by John50 » Thu Mar 19, 2015 8:37 pm

Hi Every one.
I have applied for my baby registration who was born in UK before my ILR,after getting our ILR visas, the details are as follow.
1:Application: MN1
2:Mode of Submission: NCS
3:Documents submitted: MN1 form, Baby 's birth certificate, parents ' ILR (BPRs), parents ' s passports, baby expired passport with her expired visa stamped on her passport, baby's recent photograph, relevant fee.
4:Date of submission: 06/03/2015
5:Received by Home Office: 07/03/2015 ( as shown by the signed delivery record of Royal male).
6:Fee deducted: 14/03/15
7:Acknowledgement letter: awaiting
8:Decision on application by Case worker: awaiting
So I am a bit concerned about my baby 's application slower process as compared to others whom stories I see on this site.

Its been 2 working weeks since your application was received by HO, 1 working week since fees taken off. Everything seems going normally, then why would you worry? Remember there were few applications which have been waiting for 4/5 months.
Patience, you may receive the documents next week or so.

Hi,

I applied for my child's citizenship (MN1 form, section 3 (2)) and they recieved the application on the 18th of Februray. they took the fee 2 days later and sent an acknowledgement letter on the 21sr of Feb, but since then i have been waiting. I know it is no where the "6 months", but is it normal for a section 3 (2) application to take longer, due to the child being born (and currently based) abroad? I am assuming this to be the case.

Thanks

Section 3(2) is Entitlement provision should be straight forward. However there may be reasons as to work load and things we may not know. That's why you see decision making is at bottom level of civil servant grade except in case of refusal as below:

Section 3(2), grant - no discretion. Initiate - AO Decide - AO
involved

Section 3(2), grant - discretion over . Initiate - AO Decide - AO
time limit exercised in applicant’s
favour

Section 3(2), refusal - discretion . Initiate - AO Decide - EO
not exercised in applicant's favour

AO: Administration officer
EO: Executive Officer
SCW: Senior Case Worker (HEO Level)
Decision making levels taken from GOV website link here: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... 04-14_.pdf
The lower the number the higher the grade and pay but people don't generally use numbers for the grades above 5.

In every department the top is the Permanent Secretary. This is the head civil servant in a department and will have his/her own private office like Ministers do.

Then there will be a few Director Generals. These will head up 'groups' of different directorates and have responsibility for the general strategy of a vast policy area.

Each directorate is headed by a Director. This job brings a lot of responsibility and a lot of pressure as you are highly accountable, Directors work long hours and have pressure from Ministers. Once you are at this level you are probably sacrificing salary to stay in the civil service as like for like jobs in the private sector would pay more. A director would probably earn £80-90k but this would be a similar level job to being a partner in a large firm in the private sector, many of whom would earn much more in their total compensation package.

Then within each directorate there are deputy directorates headed by Deputy Directors. This is often called Grade 5 and marks the start of the Senior Civil Service. If you get to Grade 5 you have done well and had a very successful career, and will make important decisions. A Grade 5 will earn about £65-75k a year.

To get above 5 you need to be really special and have a lot of extensive and diverse experience.

Below the Senior Civil Service are Grade 6 and Grade 7. Grade 6 is about £50-60k a year and Grade 7 is about £45-50k a year. This is where most of the graduates on the Fast Stream will end up spending their careers.

After this you go from numbers to letters. The order will be
SEO (Senior executive officer)
HEO (Higher executive officer) - around £25-32k. If you enter in the Fast Stream you come in here.

The vast majority of civil servants are in these grades:
EO (Executive officer) - around £24-26k
AO (Administrative officer) - around £18-22k
AA (Administrative assistant) - around £15-17k

Fast Streamers are supposed to accelerate from HEO to Grade 7 quickly (3/4 years), whereas the climb to Grade 7 outside the fast stream is a long and weary one.
Above quote kindly copied from internet Link here: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthr ... ?t=2154060

Hope this comes sooner than later.
Good luck.

Mauser1905,

Thanks a lot. I hope so, they haven't asked for anything either in terms of more documents. I assume the documents are at least past the initial security check stage (3 month old baby), and probably awaiting a case worker to confirm, let's hope it's quick.

Process according to Ian Page (Deputy Chief Caseworker)

(i) Envelope opened and fee taken to account. Contents of envelope place
in a pouch.
(ii) Application file is created. Database record created specific to
the application.
(iii) Security checks conducted - some of which are directly against the
information entered onto the database, others are with external
agencies.
(iv) Case goes into queue awaiting consideration by a caseworker. Queue
is in date-of-receipt order.
(v) Case is allocated to a caseworker for consideration. If everything
is in order the application is approved. If not, deficiencies are
rectified - e.g. by writing to applicant for further documents or by
clarifying immigration history from records or clarifying security
checks.
(vi) The system generates a certificate for the applicant which is
printed off and despatched.

Thanks again.

Looks like error from HO side, but to be honest doesn't seem alarming to me. However you may try contacting HO and convey the concerns.
