Applying for my daughter.

Post by vinodt1347 » Tue Mar 24, 2015 10:42 am

Hi,

I and daughter both have ILR for 1 year+.
My daughter was born in India in 1998 and will complete 17 years on 19/May.

Can she apply for Naturalisation just for herself after May?
If she has to apply before May do I need to also apply along with her?

Iam not very interested in UK citizenship but am keen for my kids to have this.

Is there any other requirement for her additionally when she applies after May that may be an issue?
Will a UK citizenship give any other benefit (other than the right to live in UK without rules about absences etc) ? Iam mostly thinking about student loans when she goes to college etc the next year?

Regards
Vinod

Where does child reside?
What status your wife has?
Any other child born to British or non-British parents.
It is not possible to cover all circumstances under which the Home Secretary might
exercise discretion in circumstances not already described in this guide. However, in
considering any application not specifically covered above consideration will be given to
• The child’s connections with the UK – we would expect the child to be free of
any restrictions on his or her stay in the UK
• Where the child’s future is likely to lie
• The parents’ views
• The parents’ nationality and immigration status – we expect either both parents to
be British citizens or one parent a British citizen and the other parent settled in
the UK.

• Whether the child is of good character
• The length of time the child has lived in the UK – we expect at least 2 years
residence (particularly if the child is over the age of 13)

• Any compelling circumstances such as a job offer or other opportunity which
requires British citizenship.

Hi,

Child is resident in the UK since 2008 and has ILR. So does my wife and I.

Hi,

Please the question was more of can she apply after age 17 as a sole applicant when she is an adult?
I think I have more or less got the answer that below that age either I or wife need to be British or we could apply together..

Yes she can since she has an ILR.

Or before age 18 can apply as child of ILR holder if you are applying for Naturalisation with her.
Being British is a state of mind.

Thanks for the information about the age being 18. I thought it was 17.

Another question please. My daughters passport expires this September. Can I apply for her Naturalisation (along with me) or do I first need to get her a renewed passport. The renewal costs about £130....

It is still valid if you apply before September, even after September that should not be an issue, according to opinions in this link and experience in this link. Good luck.
