FLR NHS charges

Post by chibakun » Mon Apr 06, 2015 12:19 pm

I'm British and wife is Japanese. Going to apply for FLR spouse visa. Does she need to pay NHS charge?

She works and pays NI as do I. We previously applied for FLR about 2 years ago.
As part of your application you may be required to pay the Immigration Health
Surcharge. Before going any further, you should check http://www.gov.uk to confirm if an
Immigration Health Surcharge assessment is required as part of your application. You
must complete this before submitting your application and enter the reference number
in this application.

Yes, the new surcharge applies to all visa and extensions wef from today. The surcharge will be payable at the point of applying and will be for the duration of the extension. So a 2.5 year extension, the surcharge will be £500 over and above the ext fees.

This will not apply though when she applies for ILR in a couple of years, it is only for entry clearance and extensions.

Bad news alright. It almost double the amount you pay in total for the extension when you combine the cost of the visa fee and the health surcharge.
