Application Method to HCI: VFS/Hounslow
Application Posted On : 19-03-2015 (2 adult + 1 Child)
Registration Status at Mission: LONDON
Originals Received: 30/3/15
Documents Printing Status: Under Process

Documents Submitted:
[1] Copy of British Passport
[2] Naturalisation Certificate [Original + Copy]
[3] Surrender Certificate [Original + Copy]
[4] 1 Photo pasted on Application form.
[5] Application Form.

Check and returned British passports.
They asked for Birth Certificate of kid and I argued with them that he is applying on his own so does not need birth certificate. They agreed after a check with someone.

VFS agreed to take 1 return envelop for originals for all 3 applicants.
They however refused to take envelop to post me the OCI booklets. They said they would call me after the booklet is returned from HC to discuss how to dispatch that.

how did you check document printing status?
https://passport.gov.in/oci/welcome

Go to status enquiry and enter the details. It tells you this status. Though I think that talking about printing at this stage is useless.

I applied for OCI on 27th Feb 2015 in person in HCI London.
I got confirmation that My application was scanned on 3rd March after that it is till sitting in London. and it is more than a month now. God knows what is their criteria to send applications to India.

OCI Delhi unit was very quick in providing this information but HCI london, they won't pick calls and won't reply to any emails.

I am glad that VFS has finally incorporated some sense in the process. It was the typical Indian mentality of mechanically following a process agreed without using logic. Asking for Special Delivery Envelope for each individual in a family application was silly unless the intention was to make money from Courier. I would be keen to know if anybody has resorted to using Recorded Delivery rather than Special Delivery as the cost difference is huge and was not worth for the Original Certificates which were only needed for OCI. I really wonder where I will require the Naturalisation Certificate (after having the British Passport).

I too argued about the Birth Certificate but was told it was required to establish that my son is really my son

The Hounslow VFS only charged me for the return of Original documents and said to call them once the OCI card is ready for collection at VFS. But the VFS site says OCI Cards will be delivered by Post/Courier only once ready.

I presume, once ready you will have to send your British passports, its seems all similar to applying directly to HCI, VFS doing despatch office job only (also keeping the crowds of HCI, camp) HCI could have employed staff and for their postal department! What an idea!!

I Have applied for a copy of the list of contractors who submitted tender for this peon's job!! via RTI.

The whole idea was to allow VFS to make some money at applicant's cost. HCI wins big time over here as they can reduce some staff who used to take applications or move them into processing applications. VFS is owned by people who have deep contacts with senior ministry hence the obvious choice of them given this job even though people know that they are highly unorganised in even handling Indian Visa and Surrender of Passport.
I am still annoyed with HCI as they did not bother to even reply/clarify after my last email to them citing my experience at VFS. Clearly it is typical for Indian Government officials to ignore complaints.

I being am told that HCI has now changed their views and would continue to ask for passports to be send to get the sticker. So few more days of wait and more money to be spend on postage as VFS would accept only 1 envelope per person.

Is it possible to provide & collect passport in person @ VFS office?

Non UK Passport holder. Timelines below. Key thing to note is that in case of Non UK passport, the consulate reaches out to the Indian embassy at the country of passport holder and waits a standard 2 months before issuing OCI (to see if any objection is recieved). Hence the additional delay of 2 months. Hopefully this helps non UK passport holders as I couldn't find an answer in this forum for my delay. Had made multiple calls to consulate for clarification and finally got to talk to the right person who explained the timeline and they stuck to the timeline they said!! But wish they communicated this when I went there to apply in person where I was initially told it would take 2 months.

Date Of Acknowledgment 27-OCT-2014
Registration Status at Mission BIRMINGHAM
Documents Printing Status PROCESSED On 19-FEB-2015
Dispatched From MOIA (OCI )NEW DELHI On 20-FEB-2015
Document received At BIRMINGHAM On 24-FEB-2015

Also requested them to expedite the sending of the passport back to me and it was expedited!!

Yes, No more postal applications.

See the link below for your nearest (as per the jurisdiction they have set!) for eg I am in Wales and I have a nearest VFS at Liverpool just 70miles but have to apply at London offices or Cardiff that is 265 miles & 180 miles respectively!!!

1) British passport copy - attested

3) Two Photos

Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI)

Post by ramesh66754 » Wed Apr 15, 2015 11:40 pm

Hi I need a help.

I am applying for OCI, in section B they ask if your parents or grand parent born in Pakistan or Bangladesh.

I have written "yes" , "My father was born in Bangladesh(year 1931) and he moved to India during independence".

Will it harm my application as if i say yes ? and if the above answer OK ?

Please do reply to it,help needed.

Thanks
Ramesh
