how important is french?

does anyone know how important french is if you want to immigrate to canada?

It depends where in Canada you go.

Well obviously it's important for Quebec but the rest of Canada I'd like to know about too.

I have English (British) friends in Alberta and I have South African (English & French speaking) in Vancouver. They get on fine, never had a problem.
