PR Card / Certificate REALLY needed ??

Post by Gomjaba » Fri Jun 26, 2015 2:30 pm

I am German national living in the UK since 2007. I am married for just over a year now and in the process of gathering all the amounts of documents required.

I know for EEA members the PR Certificate is optional but what is the reality?

The fact it, it seems you have to prove in the AN form anyway for how long you have been in the country, who you worked for etc. and you need to do the same for the PR certificate.

Given you need to send in original, it seems I need to do all that twice, so waiting for my PR to come through, the originals as well, just to send them off again alongside the AN form (unless I am using an NCS of course).

Any advise ? Is there really a point in creating those tons of documents / copies and whatnot ?

Less risk. If your PR application fails then you only lose £65 as with naturalisation it's £1005. Also, naturalisation applications with PR processed much quicker. (Mine took just 16 days)

Bear in mind though you can only apply for naturalisation after you've held your PR certificate for 12 months.
Naturalisation timeline: EEU PR
Application date: 17-03-2015
Fee deducted : 24-03-2015
Acknowledgment email : 25-03-2015
Approval date : 02-04-2015
Ceremony: 28-04-2015

I believe the 12 months don't apply since I am married to a UK citizen ..

Then it's definitely worth applying for PR first.

Once you get your PR you are not required to prove Treaty rights again when applying for naturalisation.
