3rd level Degree:Working visa Ireland: Moderators help

Post by talk2ravi » Tue Nov 16, 2004 7:10 am

Hi,

I am an IT professional from india and am expecting a job offer from a Ireland based IT company.

I understand that in order to get the working visa a third level degree in the relevant field is required.

I hold an Engineering degree in electronics. Anybody has an idea whether the embassy will consider that as a relevant qualification.

Please help.

Regards,
Ravi

I am assume you are talking about the 2 year working visa. Yes you will need to have graduated from a 3rd level institution with a degree that is relevant to the job offer that you want to take up. i suppose if you can show the the connection of your degree and you work you should be able to get it. more information on this can be found on http://www.entemp.ie/labour/workpermits ... sation.htm

otherwise you could try the work permit which will take longer to process

Third level degree

Post by talk2ravi » Thu Nov 18, 2004 5:05 am

Hi F2K,

Thanks for your response. So ,do you mean to say that the electronics engineering degree would not be considered as a qualification for a job in the IT field.?

Will it help if the company offering me the job mentions in a letter that I have the required qualification for the job role that they require?

Request your reply.

Cheers,
Ravi

Hi All,

Just thought of updating everyone that for a working visa in IT field, a computer related degree is mandatory. I have a 4 years engineering degree in electronics and wanted to apply for working visa.

This is the reply I got from the workingvisa department today

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I wish to refer to your e-mail of 15/11/04 to this Department. If it is an
electronics degree you have then would not qualify under the working
visa/work authorisation scheme. In order to qualify for a working
visa/work authorisation under the working visa/work authorisation scheme
for the Information and Computing Technologies Professional sector and the
Information and Computing Technicians sector, persons must have a third
level qualification. For ICT Technicians, applicants must have the minimum
of a diploma in the Information and Computing Technology field from a
recognized third level institution. For ICT Professional, applicants must
have the minimum of a degree in the Information and Computing Technology
field from a recognized third level institution. You would need
confirmation from the third level institution to which you obtained your
qualification to see if your qualifications surffice under the above. If
they can confirm that you hold a degree in information and computing
technologies or a diploma in information technologies then an application
may be consider under the working visa/work authorisation scheme.

If the above does not apply then you would need a work permit as mention in
my previous e-mail.
