Glasgow Salary and Cost of Living

Post by Standard007 » Tue Sep 22, 2015 12:09 pm

Hi Friends,

I am a newbie, here currently exploring an finance based offer from a UK based finance firm in Glasgow..
Preliminary round of interview done, and they are quoting salary range of GBP 50k - 53k.
Nothing finalized it yet, and they asked me to quote my expected salary... any thoughts if this is in range?
I am a qualified accountant with 10+ years of experience in similar industry, i will be looking for Tier 2 for myself and my wife and kid.

For Living cost based on various online/google search i found as follows.. please confirm if this is reasonable or not?

Rent

1BHK 600

Council Tax 100
School Fees 0
Travelling/School 0
Water 50
Electricity 50
Garbage 10
Broadband/TV/Tel/Fiber 30
Mobile Phone 40
International Calling 20
Food Lunch 100
Grocery Home 200
Office Commute 0
Weekend Trips 100
Movies/Entertainment 100
Monthly Shopping 100
Petrol 50

Total 1,550

my first preference is SAFETY, and second priority if near kids school and near to my office area,
so not yet finalized the location in Glasgow, any thoughts on good location, my office is in G2 XXX post code.

Any thoughts/response appreciated

ISTR when I lived in Scotland, water was included in Council Tax, and in UK refuge is part of Council Tax. Think you might be light on accommodation, £600 a mo won't get you much anywhere and certainly put you in a dodgy area.

You do know the company applies for the T2, not you? Do they have a sponsor's licence?

Noone pays for garbage collection - it's included in council tax.

Electricity (power) cost seems light (pun unintended)
- for family of 3 my elec/gas is £120+ per month

Glasgow is in Scotland; it's cold in winter so think of heating.

Food 200 a month - not sure
- my family of 3 pays more, maybe 350-400 pm

Need to factor car overheads: car tax, car insurance, annual MOT plus servicing, also parking charges (?)

You probably want house or at least contents insurance too.

Thanks Wanderer - for your prompt response.

1. I didn't knew much about the council tax, i put a ball park figure here. If water/etc in council tax, then the water etc amt can be moved to the property/rental part..

for rental, my requirement is SAFE and good idea, and looking for flat, I am fine with either furnished or unfurnished. I am also not fussy about the size of the flat..

2) regarding Tier 2 G, may be there i could not explain properly, the finance/insurance firm will sponser the Tier 2 visa and yes, they are rated as 'A'

Any thoughts on the overall budget of GBP 1500 for family of 3.
And if the Salary provided by firm is in range?

Regards

Thanks noajthan
I got it now,

So i think we will need to increase the budget to slightly more say another GBP 300+ more. So a total of GBP 1800 looks reasonable?

Also, any thoughts on good place for stay..

Thanks for this, I tried to check this site yesterday also, it shows for Scotland and not Glasgow, but i assume it should be good enough range.

However the salary mentioned here for accounting functions for >10 years experience is around GBP 66K - 96K.. it seems the roberthalf's range is too wide.. the firm is quoting range a way different..
