British Passport application processing timelines (only)

Dear fellow Brits,

I was interviewed for my first adult British passport today and here are most questions that I remembered to have been asked in no particular order…

1. Your full name (spell is out)?

2. Your date and place of birth?

3. Please describe the route you took to reach the passport office today (include any public transport used)?

4. Who is your current employer and what is their address? At which site do you work and its full address?

5. What is your current job title and since how long have you been working there?

6. Names of all your previous employers in the UK and from/to dates worked and your job title at each role?

7. Full name of current and previous line manager?

8. What date did you first came to the UK?

9. What is your highest qualification and where/when did you attain it? What was the start date of that qualification?

10. Where did you complete your graduation and post-graduation? Which University?

11. Full name of your spouse and child? Maiden name of spouse? (spell it out)

12. Date and place of birth of spouse and child? Age of child?

13. Date and place of marriage?

14. The name of your child’s school and address? Describe the route from your home to the school?

15. Nearest playground from your home and describe the route from your home to this playground?

16. What is your current address? What were your previous addresses in the last 5 years?

17. How long have you lived at your current address? Who all lives at that address?

18. Who is the owner of your present place of residence?

19. Who is the mortgage provider of your property? Has the mortgage provider changed ever since you bought the property?

20. What was the term (in years) when you first mortgaged your property? How many years on the term are now remaining?

21. When and where was your citizenship ceremony? Was it group or private? Who attended the ceremony with you? Who handed you the naturalization certificate?

22. What documents did you send with your passport application to the passport office and how many documents have you received back?

23. Who filled your passport application? How many page passport did you order?

24. What are your plans for this evening?

At the end of the interview, I was asked to sign and write my name on a paper which she matched with her records and said that I will have to wait for 10 working days or sooner to hear from them.

Had letter and new form from HMPO today to fill out as had not filled out the parent's section as did not think it was required as not claiming citizenship through them (as form mentions), but through naturaliastion instead.
Called to clarify, and was told that parents and grandparents info (as parent were born outside of UK) was required regardless of claiming citizenship through them or not.

My one week was wasted as I glued one picture on the application so had to resend picture. On an average its taking about 2 weeks to get your British passport from the time you post your application...

Hi MraLondon Have you managed to find a solution regarding your. child's surname. I am in exactly the same situation as all my names are listed under the Surname section of my old passport. Let me know if you find a solution and I will also keep you updated of how mine goes.

A letter came through the post on 25/09/15 (dated 23/09/15, one day after the interview) asking me
to resend my naturalisation certificate which had been sent back to me on 21/09/15 to the IPS office above. I called the Adviceline and they followed it up with the IPS office who called back and asked me to resend the document. I sent it on 03/10/15 and it was received yesterday 05/10/15.

It has been a very long journey but I can only wait and see if anything comes through by Friday. I have not received any SMS messages throughout the process so far.

Update:
SMS received at 9.15 am yesterday and passport delivered around 12.30 pm same day but I was away from home. The document resent as per the update above has not been returned yet.

Documents enclosed: Filled application form (person providing reference job title was software engineer), 2 photos with one countersigned (baby had eyes closed), Original FULL birth certificate with both parents details, Mother's passport original, Mother's ILR BRP card original, A separate sheet of paper with details on Grandparents.

Mother filled the application form (to avoid marriage certificate queries), I (Father) sent it via Post office Check & Send: Went to London bridge crown post office thinking they would have seen lots of these rather than smaller ones. Grumpy woman at the counter continuously mouthed absurdities like only passport copy is needed, BRP card not needed as visa is usually stuck on the passport (!), what is the purpose of grandparents details, started reading the application booklet for 10 minutes - drove me mad to the point were I just shouted bag everything and send it out. So £10 pounds lost for an absolutely pathetic service. Not sure if check and send makes the passport application any faster.

Documents returned via DX courier in a plain envelope almost falling apart in a very shabby manner.

All in all, quite smooth process if homework done properly.
