Travelling while waiting for new work permit

I would like to know whether I can travel outside Ireland while I am waiting for the new work permit ?

What immigration permission do you have at the moment. And do you have a valid re-entry visa?

I have valid re entry visa until Oct 2016. I would like to go and visit my family in Italy for few weeks in January after I complete my current employment so I was wondering whether or not I can do that.
