21 days to book ceremony lapsed

Post by asmiali » Fri Apr 22, 2016 10:35 pm

Hi

I tried to call the council numerous times and unfortunately today 21 days have lapsed. What does this mean for my approval? Am I in trouble? What can I do?

The post would suggest that while there is a 21 day limit, councils can choose to book your appointment. Is my understanding correct?

Why didnt you just rock up in person at the council and make a booking if you couldn't get hold of them after so many attempts? Thats what I would have done since this is a crucial part of the BC application. Who knows how strict they will stick by the 21 day rule? There might be some hassle arising from this, it would be pure speculation what that is from what posters might tell you. Whatever your understanding of the 21 day rule is, march to the council in person immediately and demand to book your ceremony. I find it unbelievable that for something so important you did not take alternative measures to sort it out.

If I am in your place I definitely go into council in person after attempting to contact over the phone for 3 days constantly.

I understand that it's unforgivable. But can someone tell me the best course of action given that it's Saturday now..

I think the best course of action is now send an email to the council expalining all your situation and visit in person as well today to seek advice.

We just discussed this last week.

I asked the council staff in-person after my citizenship ceremony.

They said contacting them within 21 days and booking the ceremony (standard or private) within 90 days from the date on the approval letter is al that counts. So you got 90 days to attend the ceremony. If you don't get any date then book a private one which I think costs about 85 (quite expensive but I think it is worth it after all the pains non-EU workers have been through to get to this stage).

I believe the OP's concern is that the 21 day notification period has passed.

Sorry. I misunderstood. Looks like the OP couldn't speak to anyone and no contact has been made with them as yet. Maybe it is worth visiting the council office in person plus HO over phone and seek advice.

I tried searching but couldn't find this "21 days to book appointment" rule.
Maybe I didn't search hard and deep enough!

Anyone has the link (to the rule, not council websites that may state the obvious)?

OK, here is the interesting update. I managed to get a hold of someone in the council today who has now booked me a ceremony.

They didn't ask anything about the 21 days lapse, they just booked a ceremony for me.

Is there any cause for concern that they will say something later on?

Regards,

There is no concern as long as you booked your ceremony with council and attend within 90 days

Like I said:
I am looking for the "rule" - that prescribes this 21 days restriction, not a statement about the restriction on council websites (or letters).

Based on the fact that I was able to book an appointment after 21 days had lapsed would suggest that either this rule does not exist or is not enforced as strictly.

There is no such rule, it's just a case management thing. If they just said book within 90 days how many people would try turn up on day 90 or even after? By saying book within 21 days it means that almost everybody will book within the 90 day limit.

I had an issue with my mail being re directed and by the time I received the citizenship confirmation letter from the home office the 21 days had lapsed. I was really worried but it was totally fine, when I rang to book my ceremony they didn't ask for the date of letter, they just wanted to make sure I did the ceremony within 90 days of the approval letter. Very relieved, good luck to anyone reading this!
