Not sure if a poll like this has been done before.

From what I've seen, how you are treated depends very much on your race.

In GNIB Dublin, Burgh Quai, in possession of a letter by DoJ which instructs GNIB what to do, there wasn't much to discuss.

It's still frustrating having to pick a "ticket", which seems to be a lottery if you can get one, and then wait for several hours.

At least you can estimate the timespan and do some errands in town in the meantime.

hmmmm - none too pleasant in the one in Wicklow town. Came back in on a green card after having completed a working holiday, and the guy was up in arms about it (post grad IT qualification, IT job).

Accused of a few things and had to show that this person had jumped to conclusions (ie. I hadn't left etc).

they are full of tricks, they try to have you over and intimidate you.

The folks at Cork garda station were quite friendly and helpful -- we even had time to chat about the weather! I was in and out in less than an hour.

My experience with immigration officials has been the exact opposite of what I experienced in Canada:

In Canada, the system is efficient and works correctly, but the people on the "front-line" that you deal with are strict and unpleasant.

In Ireland, the system is a mess and full of holes, but the people on the "front-line" that you deal with a friendly enough.

we should have a poll of this base on race and nationality. then it should show about why people not happy about them!
