UK Marriage Visa for a Taiwanese

Post by PaulUKTW » Mon Aug 22, 2016 12:19 pm

Hello all,

My wife is Taiwanese, we were recently married in Hong Kong and now we want to live in the UK together.

The process is quite complex and difficult, has anyone been through this experience? Taiwanese Wife, UK national married and getting a visa for the UK?

I would greatly appreciate getting in touch with people who have been through this experience.

Thanks

Paul

Your wife has to apply for a Spouse Settlement visa. The visa fee is £1195 + a NHS surcharge of £500. This will grant an initial limited leave to remain visa of 2.5 years.

As the sponsor you have to submit evidence showing that you earn at least £18,600 per annum. You should submit the most recent 6 months of pay slips and 6 months corresponding bank statements. If you have no income at all, you will need £62,500 in savings held in an accessible account for a minimum of 6 months. Only savings over £16,000 will be considered to meet any shortfall in earnings.

You'll need to submit proof of a genuine relationship + adequate accommodation available in the UK on your wife's arrival.

It would help if you could post details of your situation.

1.Are you employed in the UK or living in Hong Kong?

2.Does your wife have a degree taught in English?
(If not she will have to pass a A1 level English test from a UKVI approved test provider).

3. Does your wife have residence in Hong Kong, or is she there as a visitor?

Hi Casa,

Thank you so much for the reply.
I am currently in the UK and my wife is in Taiwan.
We got married on the 25th May 2016 after 7 years of a relationship
We got married in Hong Kong but don’t/haven’t lived there.

Here is some more background info -

Me -
New employment since June 15th 2016 in the UK
Salary is above £18,600
In my accounts I have over £17,000
I receive basic Disability Living Allowance (lowest rate)
I live at home with my parents but I am planning on renting when my wife arrives in the UK

My wife -
Wife studied in Edinburgh University for a Masters Degree
Wife is Taiwanese, residence is in Taiwan and she is there now
Wife has approximately £4,800 in her accounts but also have some stock ownership - does that count?

Thanks again for your help and clarification

Paul

If you are receiving DLA you should be exempt from the £18.600 minimum income level. Member petaltop has more knowledge on this.

If you are exempt, you need to meet the adequate maintenance level, which I believe is currently £114.85 remaining weekly after any rent or council tax has been paid. Again wait for any update on this.

You must provide proof of receipt of this benefit in the form of:
(a) Official documentation from the Department for Work and Pensions or the Veterans Agency, that confirms current entitlement and also the amount being received.
(b) A bank statement issued in the last 12-months prior to the application demonstrating payment of the benefit or allowance into the account.

Thats great, thanks again for the info.
Hmm, i think it works out to be less than that, Ill need to check but I am pretty sure its less.

That would be great if petaltop could give me some information on this too. Its very complicated.
