Director of a Limited company at the time of switching

I am currently on a T1 Ent visa and a director of a limited company.
I am planning soon to switch to T2 General Visa.

The Question is that is it OK if I resign as the director once my T2 General visa is approved OR should I resign first and then apply for T2 General visa.
