After 14 weeks of waiting without any news from the HMPO, I am too worried now.
I want to know whether I am on a solid ground or not. Waiting a day in Aleppo is worth a hundred elsewhere.

In cases of refusals, do they usually leave people in the dark like this? Or it's a sign that things are just fine with a big chance of approval but it takes time?

If you had been refused you would be informed.
I don't know about the logistical difficulties of communications for where you are now but ordinarily you would be informed.

So not having had a refusal means you have the chance of success.
And its not 50:50 as you obviously applied with all the evidence you could muster to back your case.
Hang in there.

As for communications here, it is possible to receive and make international calls with some difficulty in some times; however, the email addresses provided in the passport applications are daily checked by me and my friends who live abroad in case we had an internet blackout in my city.

Hopefully things would workout.

My understanding is that, if successful, passport will be sent securely to the UK Visa Application Centre where you applied.

Have you checked with that centre lately?

Actually, UK Visa Application Center isn't authorized to inform the applicant about any detail; according to them.

4 weeks ago, I sent the HMPO an email asking about the progress. They refused to leak any detail, they said they will contact me when they need to.

I meant it may be worth checking if the passport may be at the VAC already.

I would love to inform you that I was notified just today to collect our British passports from the VAC in Beirut, Lebanon.
