time taken to get a job in UK

Post by sikouanastreet » Wed Feb 27, 2008 1:51 pm

Hi

I got my HSMP approval recently and I am planning to come to the UK in a month's time for job search.
Can people in this forum tell their experiences about the job search..

I want to have an idea of how long it usually takes to land in a job, the worst cases... etc...

Also, pointers regarding how to go about the search, initial sharing accommodation e.t.c would be very helpful...

Regards
SS

Hi SYH

The other thread that you had referred was for a different question. I was not sure whether my job search would be effective if I do from outside the UK. I was asking that.

But this thread started for a different reason. Now I have decided that I would move to UK and search. But, I wanted to have an idea on how long things take..

If you have SKILLS jobs are plenty.

took me 3 months to find the job but I got it.

Keep trying and if u have the Skills and "Knowledge" you will beat any other contender :)

Yeah, at our place we must have 50% Indians on HSMP/WP (about 500 all together) and we all get along great even when cricket is involved. Not always the case when it's India - Pakistan tho...!

Best when it's someones birthday, samosas all round! Must cost a fortune, we Brit's either have the day off or get some 10p Jammy Dodgers from ASDA....

We endlessly discuss the Koh-i-noor diamond and who it really belongs to......

Sunny,

Take a break buddy....go, rejuvenate and come back...am sure you will find a good job...Not everyone will find it hard to get a job in UK. It all depends on your skills, experience, qualification and luck...So instead of posting demoralising messages, try and share some of your experiences..maybe other will shed some light on that as well...who knows..it might be a good learing for you...

At the rate Indians are buying up businesses here in the UK, it's just a matter of time that Kohinoor is bought back as well.

I'm sorry about it, but isn't this part of life ?
sunny9675 wrote: i feel some time very sorry for my new fiends who will be taking jump in this situation

Now don't tell me that, people has to take loan to come here. If so, then they are fool. Usually, people comming through HSMP are good earners back home. And today, when world have shrinked by internet, and everybody should have knowledge of ground reality(in UK).

About me, I'm really not bothered about these changes, and ready to pack my bags and start my career back home. I'm not ready to ruin my present , worrying about these changes.

About job scenario here, Are you sure, people migrating to Aus,Nz, Canada or US starts job from day one ? Its up to individual to manage his/her living.

Again, this is up to an individual. Nobody is forcing them to come here. And one has to do proper research before migrating to any country. I heard if people selling their homes and properties back home , and suffering. But, wasn't that a bit too early from them. Specially in India , selling property is big decision.
sunny9675 wrote: unless you have British qualification and British experience

I don't agree with you on this. There might be some jobs , that requires british qualification or experience but not all. But, same is situation in India, too. My employer in India use to take people from certain universities only.

I came here without any previous british exp or qualification and easily find a job here.

Finally, doesn't abuse of HSMP by some of us causing these radical changes ?

This has happened so many times here. So don't bother about it.

Why don't you try to search forum for such queries. I remeber, I replied to such query recently.

JD, what kind of salaries are you looking for a job in London with your experience. I'm asking this because I have exactly same exp and skills like you.

HSMP maybe, JD's experience would not be relevant to you as you are (?)Indian with Swiss experience whereas JD is from a country which has had a lot of bad press in the West in recent years..You are bound to find the going much easier than him. Best of luck!
