NIC number with biometric card?

Is anyone aware whether biometric cards these days come with NI number printed on back for spouse visa dependents (of British citizens) or do i need to apply one for my wife? Confused as some guidance indicates they are automatically issued these days. Will be great to find out from someone with recent experience.

its only certain Visa's that will have the NI number on the back, I believe its for the employment tier visa's.

My wife just applied for an NI number, as it didn't have one on the BRP.
