Register as a British citizen

Good Afternoon there! I was born in Miami, FL in 1979. My mother was born in Cayman Islands and now hold two types of British passports. I lived in in Cayman Islands until I was 24. I got Caymanian Status but I was never sure if i could have register as a British overseas territories citizen or British citizen in 2002 due to changes in the British nationality Act.
