Neutralisation and citizenship

Post by giorgia291 » Fri Mar 31, 2017 12:39 pm

Hi,

I am 27 years old, I was born in Italy, have an Italian passport and I am registered with AIRE (Anagrafe Italiani Residente all'Estero). I have been in the UK 22 years, completed all my studies here including a BSc in Adult Nursing. I have been working as a nurse in the NHS for nearly 2 years.

My question is... What steps do I need to take to get a British Passport?

Thanks

You need a document certifying permanent residence before you can apply for naturalisation.

Do you perhaps have a stamp in an old passport which says Indefinite Leave to Remain??

My old passport was taken by the Italian Consulate in order to issue a new one in 2009.

After I gain a PR, I then apply for neutralisation?

It might be a good idea to apply for a Subject Access Request to see what the Home Office records show.

Hi,

I have a similar question, I've lived in UK for 13 years completed undergrad degree and have been working since graduation. Passed Life in UK test recently. I have a Polish passport, do I still need to apply for the PR card before completing a neutralisation application?

Yes. Any non-Irish citizen applying for naturalisation need a document issued by the Home Office certifying that you hold either ILR or PR (so, either DCPR or a PR Card) before they can apply for British naturalisation.
