What's this thing about 2 more days??!!! No one knows yet, everyone's waiting. Waiting and hoping with 41 points.
Typically the process is that the Home Office has 5 business days to inform everyone about their RCOS status, approved, rejected or refused. For the past few months sometimes it has just been a guideline and can come anywhere from two weeks after the 11th.
If you applied last month it's most likely you didn't get your refusal til later - I only heard back from my lawyer on the result at the end of the month and had to cancel a planned flight.

The Home Office is understaffed and incompetent. A lot of people here are freaking out about not hearing back on a Monday when we know from previous that it is SO SLOW with no guarantees.

October and November's cut off were 21 points so maybe they made mistakes in their paperwork, unfortunate

The text of the Times article

Visa cap is creating UK skills crisis, say technology chiefs

Xxxxxx
April 17 2018

Technology entrepreneurs, investors and advisers have called for an urgent review of visa rules, warning that restrictions on skilled workers are creating a “skills crisis”.

With a cap on the number of visas issued for skilled non-European workers being reached for an unprecedented fourth month in a row in March, a group representing the technology industry has warned the government that the rules are “no longer fit for purpose”.

Tier 2 visas for skilled workers from outside the European Economic Area and Switzerland are issued by the Home Office on a points-based system, which measures qualifications. Higher-paid workers receive priority once employers have shown that they cannot hire the staff they need within the UK.

The cap is broken into fixed monthly allocations. Until December, the monthly quota had been exceeded only once since its introduction in 2011.

Xxxxxxxxxx, a not-for-profit group that promotes the interests of technology entrepreneurs and London as a technology hub, has written to xxxxxxxxxxx, the immigration minister, demanding that the annual quota is raised from its present level of 20,700.

The letter’s 62 signatories include xxxxxxxxx, chairman of xxxxxxxxx, a venture capital company; xxxxxxxx chief executive of xxxxxxxxx, the Canary Wharf hub for financial technology start-ups; and xxxxxxxxx, chairwoman of the xxxxxxxx and an investor in companies including xxxxxxx and xxxxxxxxxxx.

The letter, which has been seen by The Times, warns that it is becoming harder to recruit the skilled software engineers on whom the industry relies.

“Mounting job vacancies in critical areas now threaten to halt growth and it is vital that UK businesses have access to the vast pool of skilled overseas workers that are needed to help fill Britain’s growing skills shortage,” it says. “The failure to address the international talent requirements of Britain’s tech businesses means the UK is now heading towards a skills crisis that threatens the future success of the industry.”

It is thought that the cap is being reached because employers are having to cast their nets more widely to make up for falling numbers of European immigrants.

“The economic case for increasing the number of Tier 2 visas is evident. Of course, we need to nurture home-grown tech talent, but demand is outstripping supply and we need effective visa routes for world-class tech professionals to come to the UK,” xxxxxxxxx says.

In its letters, the group adds that the requirements of the system are “confused” because the private sector, including technology companies, is competing with the NHS to secure Tier 2 visas. More than a third of the allocation goes to staff for the health service.

Senior healthcare staff have complained that the quota is making it difficult to recruit enough doctors. The minimum annual pay required to secure a visa changes according to the number and nature of applicants, and has doubled since last year as demand has grown.

Two years ago applicants needed to score at least 21 points for their application to be successful. By last month, this had risen to 56.

The Home Office did not respond to a request for comment.

can someone please clarify the difference between applying as new entrant or experienced in term of points in rcos ? I qualify for new entrant and my salary range between 50k-55k non shortage. Do I have more chances of getting rcos as new entrant vs experienced ? thank you
As far as I’m aware there are no point exemptions for new entrants.

The new entrant exemptions only refer to the required salary thresholds.

You’re still a chance at 50 points though so don’t give up yet.

I’m in the same position M2RKK. Came back from the U.K. in December and have been in Australia ever since with my room, boyfriend and life of the past 2 years in the U.K. Waiting with 34 points.
I feel you! I started a new job in December so we have been applying since then. My Tier 5 ran out in March and I'm now luckily working out of the Dubai office until this all gets sorted...still paying for my room etc in London as we didn't expect it to take this long. What's a pain is that I'm in a niche job that's not even recognised as an actual job title in the UK system and we can't get on any shortage lists :/ so we end up sitting in on only 31 points waiting waiting.

Same position too - I am starting a new job with a new employer (the sponsor) and am doing some work from here while I wait.

It's a massive inconvenience as it is for everyone - leaving behind your home, friends, family, partners, whatever community you have in the UK for an unspecified amount of time that keeps stretching it.

The most I can believe is that we will all get there soon & you can't predict the unpredictable. Trends, numbers, predictions... none of it's real

Props working from Aus on the time difference! We keep delaying my flight from Dubai to Australia until I absolutely have to be there because of that reason. Banking on the fact that once the CoS *eventually* goes through that I can be in Australia only 2 weeks. I haven't been home in two years so my family keep having hopes crushed as I've had to keep moving my flights since Feb.

It annoys me when I see the news reports about hitting the visa caps, you just get portrayed as a number and everyone forgets we are real people here with lives in the balance based on number crunching at home office. A little disheartening but you have to keep hopes up somewhere right?!

Hey guys, a friend just said that they had another friend get their CoS approved at 50 points. Again im stressing that this is third hand knowledge but he seems pretty sure about it.
Rcos ? Or cos? It means non shortage position approved at 50points so far ?
Rcos, 50 points, non-shortage. I have been wrong before because the home office tends to be funny with doctor's applications but im really hoping im right and we see a lot more approvals tomorrow.
Are you sure? can you confirm from the guy if possible that 50 points have Approval, as that would ease a lot of anxiety for lot of us!!

Yes by my employer this morning. It’s completely unfair and shortage occupations should have been removed.
