British Citizenship - Passport

Post by Maronita » Thu May 31, 2018 5:46 am

I am interested in obtaining a British passport.
My dad was born in England to a British mother & an Irish father.
My grandparents came to the U.S. with their children; my dad
was still an infant at the time. My dad never formally gave up
his British citizenship and he because an American by default, as
he was only three years old when his mom became an American citizen,
and the U.S. Government deemed him an American.
I have my grandmother's expired British passport listing all her children
on it. Can I just simply apply for a passport seeing my dad was born there
and I have my grandmother's expired British passport or what would the
process be? Thanks!

Easiest if your dad applied for British passport. He probably would be able to get a new birth certificate. You can get BC by descent. You could apply yourself but you would need to prove your dad was British at some point (grandmoms passport) but I dont think the process is that simple. Showing her passport wont be sufficient. You will need his birth certificate.

British Citizenship

Post by Maronita » Mon Jun 04, 2018 2:48 pm

My dad was born in the U.K. of a mom who was British and a Dad who was Irish.
My dad was taken from England as an infant and has lived in the U.S. ever since.
Some of my siblings are interested in becoming a citizen of England. Although
we do NOT have my dad's birth certificate we do have my grandma's expired
British Passport that lists my dad, his date of birth, and his place of birth.
Are we able to use that as proof of birth in UK? My dad was born in Wiltshire, England!
What else if anything do we have to do? How much does it cost in American money?

Thanks!

You need the birth certificate.

Apply at www.gro.gov.uk for a duplicate birth certificate.
Char (CR001 not Casa)

You have the place and date of birth already. Its easy and a duplicate birth certificate is not expensive. £9.25 only. ($14) Your grand mother's passport is not admissible as evidence. His b Cert is. Records in England go back to more than a century.
