Migrating to EU

Migrating to EU

My wife has ILR in the UK whats our best option to go on a holiday and possibly work in EU. Can she work im a UK citizen. We can i believe use this directive mentioned on the board ?

Yes, I think so too. You are an EEA citizen and therefore have the right to work in other member countries as well as the right to short term visits. The ILR of your wife shouldn't matter, I believe, except that she will lose it after two years of absence from the UK. Also be aware that you will have to register with the competent authorities in most countries if you intend to stay for longer than three months and possibly have to prove that you can support yourself and your family.

In principle, you shouldn't need a visa to enter other EEA countries and Switzerland but have a look at the sticky thread discussing the directive.

What nationality is your wife? Depending on her nationality she may still require a visa to visit another EU country (even for a holiday).

Why doesn't she become a British citizen herself?

She has to be a resident for 3 years so thats 2 with flr then next May will be her year 3 then she can apply.

Do you want to work as part of your holiday in Europe, or do you want to move for longer?

In both cases you and your wife can work.

You need to be explicit when you apply for the visa that you want to work, otherwise they will issue something which incorrectly says she can not work. Do apply early as most embassies do not process them quickly. If the visa application takes more than 3 weeks, then contact Solvit.

Yes she is thinking of working i just believed a normal Schengen would suffice then apply for a residents card on arrival.
