What are the circumstances? Are you the person who is British and how are you British (By descent or born in the UK). Where was your son born and his children?

Does anyone know the company used by matkirk in her original post? Our son is in the process of applying for his UK citizenship (British mother & American father) but our daughter-in-law would like to explore the possibility of citizenship for their two sons, both under 10 years old.

Using the new online application! So quick and easy. Now I'm just hoping that there is somewhere in Manitoba that I can do biometrics so I don't have to travel too far. I know that for the ceremony I have to travel to Calgary, Alberta as there is no consulate in Manitoba sadly.

Hello ... I reside in Vancouver and recently submitted my UKM application, which was received by UKVI on July 20, 2018. Received letter requesting biometrics via email on August 6. Information in that letter required me to enroll my biometrics through VFS Global Services plc. The link to set up an appointment with VFS Global is provided in the letter requesting biometrics. When I set up the appointment, the only locations available in Canada were: Edmonton, Halifax, Ottawa, St. John's NL, Toronto, and Vancouver. Fortunately for me I live in Vancouver and got an appointment the next day (Aug 7), but it looks like you may have to travel to Edmonton. I asked at my appointment how long it takes VFS to submit my biometrics to UKVI and they said, they've already received them -- everything is submitted electronically immediately. I haven't yet heard anything further from UKVI, but once I do I'll post my full timeline experience. Good luck with arranging your biometrics.

UGH that sucks. Manitoba and Saskatchewan always get screwed! How could there not be one place here that can do it?

Did you go through an Agent or complete the application yourself?
My sister's and I are looking to apply based on the Romein case, but are reluctant to spend R30k to go through an agent. I have the obvious document i.e vault copies of mine, my mom's and my grandfather's birth certificates, as well as all the relevant marriage certificates....but do I need something additional to prove my claim? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Tx.

Jeez no do it yourself. Apparently its an online application now and 30K is crazy!! It will cost the price of a courier to the UK and 80 pounds for the ceremony fee. The online application is just a series of questions and then tells you what documents need to be sent to the UKVI.

UKM applicants in the US - how or where did you get the passport sized photos in UK dimensions ?

I used a program called Gimp to create a grid of 8 45mm x 35 mm photos on a 4"x6" photo that I printed at the drugstore. I don't remember where but the instructions are on the web.

In my personal experience it's not a problem. It took a couple of months before I got biometric appt. I think it just depends on who is handling your case. I certainly learned that patience is the key. 9 months later I got my British Citizenship yesterday at a ceremony in Houston! Now for the passport.....😃
Hello,

Regarding the citizenship ceremony, I'm wondering if you received your invitation from the UK Consulate in Houston via email or post? Also, how long did it take after approval of your application to be invited to the ceremony? Thank you.

I am going to try apply based on the Romein case (double descent), without an agent. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I understand that I need the necessary birth and marriage certificates, I am just wondering whether I am expected to submit a motivation or cover letter citing the case or further explanation as to why I think I qualify?

Hi, we are also trying to apply using the Romein case. Perhaps we can compare our situation to see if we are in a similar one?

Yes the Romein case
Hi Bear, did you did in a covering letter with your application via the Romein case? I was in touch with the solicitor who dealt with this case and he wanted to charge 1000 pounds to write this letter? Any chance of sharing the letter that you sent?

That would be a great help!
  • I'm born 1981 in SA.
I was born in wedlock, as were both my parents and grandparents (not sure if that is relevant).
My dad is South African with no ties to the UK.
My mom was born in 1952 in SA - she has a British Passport that says she is a citizen.
Both her parents were born in the UK in the 1920's.
I have vault copies of everyone's birth certificates and marriage certificates

I am assuming that my mother got her citizenship through descent and not registration (my mom doesn't know either). All I know is that she travelled on my grandmothers passport as minor, and only obtained her first passport when she was in her late 30's.
