Claiming child benefit???

Post by mfm » Wed Oct 10, 2018 5:12 pm

Hi:
my daughter was born in 2014 in India, and I got my British passport in 2015,
They both arrived in UK, July 2017
My wife is expecting our second child now
Wife's BRP says:
*Spouse/partner
Leave to enter
*Work permitted
*No public funds

Daughter's BRP says:
*PBS dependant
Leave to enter
*Restricted work
No work as sportsperson
*No public funds

I would like to know if I can claim any benefits
My p60 for last year was about 27,000
My wife's p60 for 2017-18 was £4600 mostly as part time
April she started full time of about £1000 monthly
September she started maternity

I read an article saying parents might be missing out on benefits
I called up HMRC
They asked me if I'm earning above£50,000, and I said no
They said I can claim child benefit as my daughter is free from immigration restrictions
Is it true???? I was surprised
She was in nursery last year and this year she started reception
Their BRP runs to march 2020 and then file for further extension

Can I claim benefits?
Child benefits or child benefit credit
Both for my first Child and the coming child without encountering problems with extension in 2020
I'm working presently and my wife is getting maternity

I'll be grateful for your reply
Thanks

You can claim benefits for both children. YOU claim not the children.

You mean, I can claim for both the children but my wife cannot claim for the children???
Appreciated
Any other benefits I'm missing out on???
The article mentioned that not claiming eligible benefits can be a detriment when getting pension
Thanks

Yes you can claim child benefits for both children. Your wife cannot.

If you qualify for child tax credits, which I doubt as your earnings are likely too high, you must claim jointly with your wife.
