Schengen Visa for new resident (spouse)

hi I have recently got married and come to the UK on a spouse settlement visa and want to apply for a Schengen visa (have been here more than 6 months) The high commission sites for any EU country ask for an 'attested marriage certificate' from the Indian Consulate and the vfs site have a complicated procedure for attesting the certificate, leave aside £18.50 fee!
I would have assumed that the BRP card and copy of the marriage certificate would suffice. Has anyone applied for the a Schengen visa and can you share what is required realistically?

Is your marriage registered in the UK?
There isn't one specific set document to prove family link.
