Truncated name on BRP issue: please advise

Greetings everyone,

I would if you could advise me regarding the following issue:

On the 17th October I had my ILR application approved by Home office. The on the 24th, I received the BRP in the post. I realised that my family name is truncated ( they took out the last two letters). I reported this to the home office on the same day, and they just replied today saying that the name has been truncated because of 30 characters limit. so they deem it is acceptable

Now, the situation looks like this:

Name on BRP: GivenName Middle1 Middle2 Middle3 Hess

while the name on my passport is :GivenName Middle1 Middle2 Middle3 Hessen

Im concerned that the truncated name on the BRP may cause some issues when board flight back to the UK a the last name dont match ( Hess vs Hessen)

Any thoughts or suggestions on what to do ?

They scan the card at the border so presumably will see the full name.

To be safe, if their response was in email format, carry that with you.

My concern is only when trying to board flight back to the UK from outside Europe ( not in the UK).

I dont think the airline staff ( in the gates or counters) have access to this BRP online system. They only rely on visual checking passport vs BRP before allowing people to board UK bound flights. so thats what Im really concerned with.

I believe the card is machine readable and has all your information stored in it therefore any immigration authority needs a relevant machine to read it and does not necessarily need access to the UK BRP system.

Did your full name fit on the previous BRP card, before IRL?
Was there no 30 character limit then?

Hi Anthony,

In the previous BRP، they used the second line to write the lastname in full. Not sure why they didn't do it that way this time , instead of trying to fit all the names on the first line.
