My wife applied for Irish naturalisation in July 2017 and still no decision on her application.
Hello
did your wife get her second stage letter ?
I applied in Oct 17 and haven’t received a second stage letter. I emailed Inis on Fri explicitly asking them was I at 2nd stage as haven’t received a letter, all I normally get are the standard still processing normally replies - so let’s see if they answer my specific question!

No letter saying second stage but in April received a letter saying that it’s still being processed etc.. then in October asked for further evidence of bills , doctors letter etc covering the last 4years. We haven’t heard anything since.

I also applied October 2017, April 2018 I got a later saying it's been processed in a normal way.

Then a week ago I email asking for update again and they replied saying it's still being processed

Can I ask what is the basis of your application?

This mimics my timeline exactly, including the generic response recently.

Basis of my app is 5 years residency EU

Just to update - Inis responded and didn’t answer my question about 2nd stage. I got the below generic response. I can only gather then that either my app isn’t at 2nd stage after a year or else Inis just won’t provide and specific details on progress of an app - reply below:

Thank you for your email. It is recognised that all applicants for
citizenship would wish to have a decision on their application without
delay. As previously advised, your application for naturalisation continues
to be processed. If further documentation and/or clarification of any
matter related to your application is required from you, we will write to
you requesting it.

A very odd process!

I’d guess that also, strange how Inis just won’t commit to where you are - not even saying nah your still at 1st stage. How I could be at first stage after a year also is unreal - no further info requested at all so odd!

We probably won’t make any more progress now until Jan...

they send the same templates in stage one and two, so unless you have a letter stating you're in stage two, you're in stage one, but then you can be in stage two for a while :(

Many people have got approvals without a stage 2 letter, we emailed them the other day and got a response from citizenship helpdesk team 7 whatever that means?

I applied for the citizenship as EU passport holder (German), so not sure do they have one team for EU citizens or whatever or they are just all the same.

I was able to get through today and this time the lady on the phone said that everything looks fine and I should get a letter informing of next steps in february. She did mention I dont need to send any more documentation so I guess the next step is the final answer. I asked if she could tell me if the minister has made a decision and she said she is not able to confirm and all letters would be sent out by February. If this is true? I dont know but I guess I will stop ringing them until Feb 😂

Timing-wise that sounds about right considering there's always a ceremony in April/May.

We had a response from a TD who contacted INIS on our behalf, they said in their reply it is not uncommon for applications to take 2 years or more.. ridiculous.

Do you have a response from the department in writing? If so it can be easily used as a proof for judicial review against the department that why the department is reverting from the changes brought during Minister Shatter time (http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/inis/pages/pr11000033)
or at least this response must be shared with more TD's to ask a parliamentary question that when the UK can process naturalisation applications in 6-8 weeks, and Germany can process Einbürgerungsurkunde (German Naturalisation Certificate) in 4-6 weeks (a quick google search results show these time periods), then why it is taking years for Ireland?

The response we had was via email. We are not banking on a result happening anytime soon, probably a result of some sort within this year, the whole process is a joke..

Is there no detailed list anywhere of the exact checks done?

GNIB, Revenue, Foreign Embassy in Ireland or Home Office in the foreign country, translation proofreading, European travel or visa history databases, referee contact etc. etc.

I mean there should be some sort of transparency around this. A timeline for each check then a total projected timeframe etc..

Then at least people would have some bloody idea... :?
