VFS - OCI Application submission - Will originals be retained?

Post by shankar981 » Thu Dec 27, 2018 2:57 pm

I am in the process of applying for OCI. Will VFS send the original British Passport to High Commission when the application is submitted? or will they verify and handover the passport?

Regards,
Shankar

First visit they will take originals of some supporting documents (birth certificate, etc) along with the application form. These will be returned by post to you in approximately a week.

Once the OCI application is approved you will visit again. This time they will take your passport. It will be returned by post in approximately a week along with your OCI card.

NP.

They will also take copies of some documents. It's best to be prepared and have copies of everything in advance. Both times I went to Goswell the photocopier wasn't working and it was expensive in any case. Plus if you're missing a copy they will send you to get the document copied and you'll have to come back and wait for them to finish with whoever they are serving.

It's a waste of your time. And also slows down the whole process for everyone else. Most people unfortunately seemed to be unprepared and the constant coming back/cutting in the queue slowed things down :(
