5yrs to 10yrs family root

Hi to all. My name is Ben, I've just receive my BRP, after applying for an extension. My wife met the financial requirement when i first applied on the 5yrs partner root. But while applying for the extension, she couldn't meet the financial requirement due to pregnancy and illness. I've now been put on a 10 yrs root. How unfair is this? It felt like a prison sentence
Is this how other European countries treat their citizens?

This is normal if you failed to meet the financial requirement for FLR M extension.
