Dependent query for F4 Immigration

My sister has applied for family based immigration for me. My son is in Australia and applying for work permit. Someone told us once he get work permit he will no longer can apply for USA dependent visa when priority number for immigration visa become available. Could you please confirm if its true. Thanks in advance
