Can’t afford Naturalisation fee?

Post by lillianegypt » Wed Feb 27, 2019 10:20 am

Hey guys, just got my approval letter today asking me to send in €950 within 10 days of the letter. This of course comes after having had to purchase a car after ours broke down so money is really tight. I get paid monthly so I can afford the fee end of March, but what happens if you go outside the 10 day window?

Any info is much appreciated!

Hi, congratulations! If you pay outside the window, you will be included in the ceremony after April. Possibly a small one in June and one in November (large one).

Can I ask when you applied? Thanks!

One of my colleagues sent his €950 fees after the 10 day window and was still included in the ceremony for which he had gotten approval. This was in 2016 though (a different time with less applicants and no Brexit!). I guess it all depends on whether the April ceremony will be full or not by the time you send the fees in.

As Anira stated above, you may end up being included in the ceremony after the April one.

Thanks for the quick reply, that makes me feel so much better.

I applied in October 2017, got my first letter the end of October, and just got my approval letter this morning in the post. Based on marriage to Irish citizen. A family member of ours applied the same week and was in the November ceremony (also based on marriage to an Irish citizen).

No problem, thats the time I applied to. Still waiting on decision... hopefully soon haha.

Just one thing, I wouldnt be too sure on the month for the smaller ceremony, last year was in September and the big one in November. So you would be looking at the last quarter of 2019 for the next ceremony.

Oh, do you know when the letter was posted?

For the previous ceremony, I submitted everything within 10 days and still was not included. So you never know

I would definitely borrow money from bank or from friend if possible. A small loan from the four main banks here (AIB, BOI, PTSB, Ulster) would normally get you 1000 euro within 3-4 hours and the annual interest is less than 100 euro.
To me, the potential risk of having to pay another GNIB registration outweighs the bank interest.

The letter that I received this morning isn’t actually dated, which is frustrating as I don’t know when my 10 days are up. Best of luck with your application, I would say you should have your letter very shortly :)

Yeah, my husband is looking for a loan from the credit union this morning so fingers crossed!

Good luck with your loan!
Any chance that you can share the approval letter with us (blurring out the personal details of course)? Normally there should be a date somewhere on the top or bottom of the letter.
