My wife’s application was signed for by UKVI on 7 Feb, and today we received a case number from the Home office and also an acknowledgment from UKBA. Is this usual ?

Her cheque for £80 has not yet been cashed.
Out of interest, does anyone know what happens to an appication between the arrival date and the issue of a case number? In our case it was exactly three weeks, and i wondered if they conduct some sort of initial review of the paperwork, or if that was the first time someone had looked at it......

Ocbeappointments@tlscontact.com sent an automated response stating they are experiencing a peak in demand and response times may be slower than usual...

Sadly, I don't know. Wouldn't it be nice to know hey.

Well, it's been four weeks ( 5 weeks this Friday) since I had my biometrics done and not heard a thing. I did receive a call on my ansaphone but no message left, so I call to see if they could check my notes to see if anyone from H/O had tried to call me yesterday, but no they hadn't so must of been a junk call. I hate all this waiting. Would love to see what they actually do to process applications.
my current time scale

You finally got your biometrics. Assuming you get done mid March, you should have an approval around end of month, going by the timelines I faced.
How quickly did they respond back with an appointment? Do you remember?

With all due respect, this topic is for form UKM Registration (ie born before Jan 1983 to British born mothers and completely different rules) updates and experience and not for form AN naturalisation applications (especially given you only applied on form AN spouse of BC a month ago).

Apologies CR001, I did not know that and I was not aware of what the UKM acronym meant. I will withdraw from this topic :)

Durham. Hopefully yours goes through quickly as well. I was really surprised to see it processed so quickly. I don't really know know what verification steps they take, but i think with registration applications, as long as you send the proper documentation, its pretty straightforward.

Eligibility criteria: UKM ( By descent )
Nationality: American
Applying from: UK
Method of application: Paperform
Date sent to UKVI - 27th Dec 2018 ( next day , tracked service with P/O)
UKVI in Liverpool received my Form & Docs - 28th Dec 2018
Payment method: Debit Card
Date money gone off account: Tuesday 29th 2019
Email with case number : Wednesday 30th Jan 2019
Date of acknowledgement by letter : Letter dated 29th Jan 2019, received in post Friday 1st Feb 2019
Date of letter requesting biometrics: Letter dated 29th Jan 2019, received in post Friday 1st Feb 2019
Biometrics done: Friday 1st Feb 2019
Requested documents be Returned: Thursday 7th Feb 2019

Hello, All!
My situation is unusual in that both my parents were born in the US, but due to several citizenship law changes in the UK, I qualified for citizenship through my mother (she became a UK citizen by marrying my father, so I inherited citizenship through her). I used a registered UK solicitor for the process, as I was confused a bit and didn't want to waste my time/money mucking about on my own.
Here is my UKM timeline:
Sept 28 2018 - Sent an inquiry to a solicitor
Oct 30 2018 - Application sent to Home Office (via solicitor)
Nov 14 2018 - Application received by Home Office
Dec 4 2018 - Notice to schedule biometrics
Dec 20 2018 - Biometrics done (at local USCIS office)
Jan 17 2019 - Applicattion approved by Home Office
Feb 22 2019 - Notice to schedule swearing in ceremony from local UK Consulate
Mar 6 2019 - Swearing-in ceremony to be held in Consulate

I'm so excited to go to my ceremony, especially since it will be on my birthday!!
I hope your ceremony went well and you had a lovely birthday :) I've heard today been approved, my ceremony is 17th April 2019 :)

You are not required to send your US passport to HMPO to get a first British passport. The application only requires you to send a color copy of all pages of your current uncanceled passports. I did this just days ago.

Hi Sunburn. I'm the Uk and I'm sure they ask for my US Passport for first British passport.

Thanks!

Now we'll see how long it takes after biometrics to approval. After that, I think up to 12 weeks for the ceremony.
