Certificate of Abode Rights Back in UK?

Post by julesvoodoo » Mon Mar 18, 2019 7:21 am

Hope someone out there can help on a certificate of abode question and specifically what status it brings once back in the UK.

Me (UK citizen) and my wife (Chinese) are planning to move back to UK with my daughter (Chinese passport) + who has a valid UK certificate of entitlement to right of abode.

As far as i understand for my daughter to enter the UK with a right of abode it will be no problem. Issue is once we are in the UK ...

1. Can we apply for schools with a certificate of abode? If not what docs do we need?
2. How can my daughter go from right of abode to UK national status? Can we apply for a passport in the UK?
3. If any health emergencies, can my daughter use right of abode to use NHS?

Any help out there would be massively appreciated. :D

WOW..thanks for the prompt response. Really appreciate it.

2 calls to the British consulate, 3 calls back to UK home office + immigration, 2 weeks searching around on the internet and various UK gov websites VS

Your online response ...clocked in at 2 mins.

Crazy world we live in....

You're welcome

Note though that once you apply for an receive the child's British passport, the RoA becomes invalid and will be cancelled.

Sorry.. have one more question.

Can you enter the UK with a certificate of abode which has less than 6 months to run?

Currently my daughter certificate of abode (China passport) runs out at end of Oct 2019. By the time we finally move may be around June.

So... only 4-5 months left on this certificate of abode before it expires....

Any advice on this greatly appreciated.
